Our Story

I’m Nathan, the founder of Yona.

And like many people who end up here, I didn’t arrive through curiosity,
I arrived through necessity.

For years, I struggled with ongoing digestive issues that slowly took over my life.
Bloating. Pain. Food reactions that made no sense.

What began as occasional discomfort gradually became something that dictated what I could eat, how I slept, and how my body felt from one moment to the next.

Like most people, I did what you’re told to do. I cut out gluten.
Then dairy. Then sugar. Then went fully vegan.

I tried low-FODMAP. Elimination diets. Supplements. Protocols. “Gut resets.”

I did everything “right”.

And still… nothing truly changed.

No matter how clean I ate, or how disciplined I became, the symptoms stayed.

Everything came to a breaking point in 2024.

After a severe case of SIBO, my symptoms escalated dramatically.
I began waking up multiple times every night with intense stomach pain.

It wasn’t discomfort.
It was unbearable.

Sleep became fragmented.
My nervous system felt permanently switched on.
My body no longer felt safe in itself.

I remember lying awake at night thinking:

This can’t be it. There has to be a way out of this.

That moment changed everything.

What I slowly began to realise was uncomfortable.

No matter how many gut-focused protocols I tried…
No matter how many antimicrobials, supplements, or dietary approaches I followed…

My body wasn’t responding.

That’s when I began diving into the research more seriously.

What I found reframed everything.

A growing body of evidence shows that many chronic gut issues aren’t driven by the gut alone.

They’re driven by the nervous system.

Stress signalling.
Autonomic imbalance.
A vagus nerve no longer sending consistent “safe” signals to digestion.

In simple terms:

If your nervous system is stuck in survival mode,
your gut cannot heal properly.. no matter what you eat.

That insight changed my entire approach.

Instead of chasing the gut in isolation, I began testing protocols that supported the gut-brain connection.

In particular, the research kept pointing toward the same underlying mechanisms:
impaired cellular energy production,

altered stress signalling, and disrupted vagus nerve communication - all of which directly influence digestion.

I began focusing on nutrients involved in:

• Cellular energy production
• Neurotransmitter balance
• Vagus nerve signalling (the pathway linking stress perception directly to digestion)
• Stress resilience during healing

And slowly… things began to shift.

My digestion became calmer.
The nightly pain reduced.
Food reactions softened.

For the first time in years, my body felt like it was working with me, not against me.

That led me deeper.

As my understanding grew, so did my caution.

I began working alongside gut practitioners, nutritionists, and clinicians specialising in nervous system and autonomic dysfunction - pressure-testing what I was experiencing against clinical frameworks, not just anecdotes.

What surprised me most was how often well-intentioned protocols failed in people with sensitive nervous systems.

Ingredients that looked perfect on paper caused setbacks in practice.
Doses considered “standard” proved overwhelming.
More wasn’t better... it was often destabilising.

That’s when I realised this wasn’t about doing more.

It was about understanding thresholds.

Eventually, friends and family began asking what I was doing differently.

Then others.

And that’s when Yona was born.

Not as a “miracle cure.”
Not as another gut supplement.

But as a carefully designed nervous system support formula, built to help the body feel safe enough to heal.

Every ingredient in Yona was chosen for a reason.
Nothing added for label appeal.
Nothing added “just because.”

Only nutrients that play a genuine role in:

• Nervous system regulation
• Energy metabolism
• Gut-brain signalling
• Stress tolerance during recovery

Just as importantly, everything was dosed with sensitivity in mind.

Because when you’ve lived through gut chaos, you learn quickly:

Too much can be just as harmful as too little.

The formulation process followed the same principles used in clinical practice:
conservative dosing, evidence-based ingredients, and prioritising tolerability over aggressive intervention.

The name Yona comes from the meaning “dove.”

A symbol of calm.
Of safety.
Of hope after long periods of struggle.

That felt right.

Because when you’re dealing with chronic gut issues, what you want most isn’t perfection.

It’s relief.
Comfort.
And the feeling that your body isn’t broken.

Yona exists for people who’ve:

• Tried everything
• Done “all the right things”
• Been told it’s stress, without being shown how to support the system underneath it.

It’s for people who need support, not pressure.
Structure, not restriction.
And education, not fear.

If you’re here, chances are your story looks a lot like mine.

And while Yona isn’t a shortcut,
it is a step toward rebuilding safety in the body
which is where real healing begins.

You’re not alone in this.

And there is a way forward.
